Siku - the World's Cutest Polar Bear

On November 22, 2011 the Scandinavian Wildlife Park in the Djursland region of Denmark saw the birth of Siku – a very adorable polar bear cub whose mother wasn’t able to produce enough milk for Siku to survive. So the carers of Scandinavian Wildlife Park decided to take Siku under their wings and hand feed him until he is big and strong enough to take care of himself.

Not surprisingly Siku has become quite the media darling. Videos of him feeding and sleeping have gone viral and his fan base is growing larger by the minute.

Scandinavian Wildlife Park opens in April 2012, and until then you can follow his development on facebook and on Scandinavian Wildlife Park’s website.

Siku means “Sea ice” in Greenlandic. The name is symbolic, because the polar bears depend on sea ice for their survival. Due to global warming the sea ice in the Arctic Sea is rapidly diminishing. Polar bears catch all their prey from the sea ice, so if there’s no sea ice – there will be no polar bears.
